Dr. William E. Smith (W.E.S.) is a composer/producer with a unique sound who is able to create music to fit any mood and situation from jazz, hip hop, rock, pop, orchestral, ambient, world or EDM. His ability to compose and perform such a large variety of music comes from a raw ability to hear and recall the many colors of music and to apply them to any situation. He has refined this ability through many years of performing in a variety of genres and through his years of formal education. Dr. Smith holds a Ph.D. in ethnomusicology and degrees in jazz composition and jazz studies.
Dr. Smith has composed and produced numerous albums for himself and other artists and he has a number of television and film placements including The Voice, Fox Sports, The Steve Harvey Show, The Carson Daly Show, Real Housewives of Miami, a PBS documentary and several independent films.
As a performer, Dr. Smith has performed and recorded with many ensembles in a variety of genres including: James Moody, Donald Byrd, Kenny Burrell, Wynton Marsalis, Jon Hendricks, Fred Hammond, Hezekiah Walker, Malcolm Jamal-Warner, Wayna, Aster Aweke, Asheru, Oddisee, and Cynda Williams.
